The sunrise is not yet here
and strangers bob on shoulders. I fall asleep
to awake at a gas station—
sandwich and soda, bubbles ease
to a light of soft pinks and oranges. Frozen waterfalls, yawns, and icy stairs, in stillness I scan
that surrounds me. "We deserve nothing more than is given in this moment,"
she smiles to me
and reaches for her camera.
Interpretation that is warm, I grip the freedom
that is so tangible
